Ordering your first set of Claws and not sure which size to pick? This page gets you there. Fit matters more with Claws than with almost any other wearable: a well-fitted set sits stable on your fingers and gives you exquisitely fine control.
Our Claws come in sets of five. Each Claw in a set is a different size, and the thumb is differently proportioned again, so a single set is built to fit the whole spread of one hand. There are four standard size sets: Extra Small, Small, Medium and Large. Measuring takes about two minutes, and if we get it wrong we will gladly exchange your Claws for a different size.
What the sizes actually mean
A "Medium set" is not five Medium Claws. It is five different sizes chosen to fit the range of fingers on a typical medium hand, from the smallest to the largest, plus a thumb Claw proportioned differently again. That is why our calculators ask for your smallest and your biggest finger: those two measurements anchor the whole hand, and everything in between follows from them.
It is also why the same set can suit two quite different hands. We build deliberate overlap between the sets, so if your fingers fall near a boundary you are not stranded between sizes.
- Extra Small: Our smallest standard set. If, as an adult, you still buy shoes in children's sizes then this is probably you. Think Pixies and other delicate magical creatures. Not available in Steampunk.
- Small: Most common fit for those assigned female at birth and smaller statured people assigned male.
- Medium: This is around the middle of the bell curve for those assigned male at birth, and also suits some more Amazonian goddess type femmes.
- Large: This size is mostly bought larger masculine bodies and some delightfully gorgeous gurls. Think big strong hands.
How to measure your fingers
You only need two measurements: your smallest finger (little finger) and your largest (middle finger). Enter those two numbers into the calculator on our Sizing and Fit page and we will email you your recommended size.
The circle-template method: measure the diameter of your little finger and your middle finger against our printable template. This is the more precise of the two methods.
The string method: wrap a length of string around each finger, mark where it meets, and measure that length in millimetres to get the circumference. A short video walkthrough is on the sizing page.
Sensation fit vs costume fit
There are two right answers to "how tight should Claws be?", and which one is right depends on what you are doing with them.
Tighter for play. Looser for wearability. Use fitting pads to dial it in.
For sensation play, choose the snugger fit. A firm Claw transmits every small movement of your finger straight to the tip, and the tip is where the control lives.
For longer wear (costume, cosplay, a night out), a slightly looser fit is more comfortable over hours. If your measurements land you between two sets, let this decide: tighter for play, looser for wearability.
Fine-tuning with fitting pads
Fitting pads are small pads that sit inside the finger cup and take up a little of the space, snugging up a Claw that is a touch loose. They are supplied with all Premium Nylon Claws. Add or remove a pad and you shift the fit without changing your size. Fitting pads are particularly useful if you are between sizes or on the smaller side of Extra Small.
Does the material or the style change my size?
Short answer: no. Measure once, and your size applies across the range.
Material makes no difference to sizing. The sizing system works the same way across Premium Nylon, Crystal, and Metal Claws. One practical note: Nylon's slight flexibility makes it the most forgiving to fit.
Style works on the same system too. Finger-cup sizing is identical across Kitten, Wolfcat, Skull, Steampunk, and Armour. One exception: Steampunk Claws start at Small and are not made in Extra Small.
Wrong size, exchanges and custom sizing
If you order and the fit is not right, we will gladly exchange your Claws for a different size. We would rather you ended up with the set that fits than hold you to a first guess.
